Baseball

I love this time of the year! We have awesome college football, High School football, and my favorite, playoff baseball. I can't believe that I have both my favorite teams playing. In the American League, the Red Sox and in the National League, the Chicago Cubs. In 1997, I left my beloved Atlanta Braves and became a hard core Cubs fan. My dad, the next year, was diagnosed with kidney cancer. All we did was watch the "The Chase" (Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa)! It is still probably some of the greatest memories of my father. I became a Red Sox fan in the summer of 1996 due to my old youth pastor, Brent. He loved the Red Sox, and I was a Cleavland Indians fan. He would tape the Red Sox games, and we began to watch them. The fans were awesome! They loved their team with such passion. The Green Monster, the hatred for the Yankee's. I was hooked.

So here I am, 12 years later cheering them on as both teams play in the Major League playoffs. The cubs are down 2-0 to the LA Dodgers. But something inside me says, as we head to LA, we are gonna take the next two. The Red Sox come in as the wild card. They are playing the LA Angels. We are up 1-0 on a great pitching performance from John Lester. I cannot wait for game 2 tonight. It is gonna be a good one.

I love this time of the year. It brings back many memories. I miss sharing them with my dad. But now, I am the Dad, and I have a little 2 year old daughter who loves to watch baseball with her daddy. We are gonna kick back tonight and make new memories as I tell her the stories of why baseball is the greatest game in all the world! So, on this October day in 2008, I miss ya dad. But I know you will be watching!

So to all you guys and gals who read this, begin to build memories with your families! Why not start tonight and cheer on the Boston Red Sox!
